Oasis - the first Art Symposium of its kind in the Okanagan, organized by the Central Okanagan Chapter of the FCA was a success, according to the organizing team and judging by the comments I heard.
The event began with a reception on Friday night, which I believe was well attended and the awards were given out for the juried show, which was up till June 15th at the Rotary Centre for the Arts.
Saturday, May 10th, 2014, began with three presentations from SFCA members Richard McDiarmid, Suzanne Northcott and David Langevin, cleverly divided to have them speak about three totally different subjects:
Richard shared his Lifelong passion though his art journey, and explained how much our life experience influences our art.
Suzanne encouraged us to work from intuitive belief, and trust to follow what our creative voice tells us.
David shared his experience and expertise on how to best sell your art.
Following was a panel discussion with the three presenters and the COC's own SFCA Denis Webber (who had a show at the Armstrong Art Gallery during that time)
The questions were directed to all members of the panel and the audience got great information.
One of the highlights of the morning was the award ceremony, where two members of our chapter received awards, Congrats to Juve Furtado and Margaret Robertson!
After lunch the SFCA’s did demos and critiquing. Attendees were free to roam and sit in, on all the different activities, which turned out to be a successful concept.
According to the organizing team Oasis shall become an annual event and I can only highly recommend to attend next time, take part in the show and enjoy..as I did…
